In this first episode of Science@ESA Rebecca Barnes sets the scene for this vodcast series by looking at why we need to send telescopes into space and considers what these ‘eyes in the skies’ can tell us about the extraordinary Universe in which we live.

The Science@ESA vodcasts explore the extraordinary Universe in which we live as it is seen through the “eyes” of ESA’s fleet of science spacecraft.

GOOD: The Science Barge

Posted on August 9, 2009
By admin in Uncategorized

Our planet is a fragile ecosystem. To maintain balance, well have to find ways to bring sustainable agriculture to our growing cities. The Science Barge, a floating farm in New York City, is proof that we can. The barge grows produce hydroponically, using only sustainable energy, and teaches local students how to do the same on their rooftops.

Applied Scalar Wave Technology – Tom Bearden interview 1of8

Part 1 of 8
Tom Bearden: An Interview on H3O / HRx & The Brave New World of Applied Scalar Wave Technology

Next Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLVzTkRnuKk

The use of scalar wave technology to produce H3O and HRx solutions brings with it a set of observable phenomenon that cannot be validated using orthodox models of chemistry and physics. To better explain some of their properties, we sought out the input of world-renowned physicist, Dr. Tom Bearden, in the U.S. – well-known for his theoretical contributions in the field of scalar wave. What resulted was an expansive interview (taped 10/17/01) — over an hour of which is observable below in four separate files. Most of this material will seem quite arcane to those without formal training in physics, but for even the untrained who grasp just 10% of the content, the obvious will become clear: now that applied applications of scalar wave technology, as profound as H3O and HRx now exist, its theoretical underpinnings will not be able to be ignored by orthodox science forever.

Parts I to III (of VIII)- Prior to taping, an Alpha Omega representative discussed how H3O can be used in place of sulphuric acid in batteries, how it holds charge and has even been shown to be self-recharging. Also mentioned before taping, was H3O’s tendency to pick up charge in its environment (i.e. during a thunderstorm). Without even going further to explore its amazing medicinal properties, Dr. Bearden explains these phenomenon by examining laws of physics which are still considered “outside the box.” Also covered is the encroachment of dogmatism into theoretical science, the myth of the scientific method, and the excoriation of honest scientists who have attempted to examine cold fusion.

The Science of Intention Pt.1

Posted on June 13, 2009
By admin in Uncategorized

Lynne McTaggart, an investigative journalist, and editor of the newsletter “What Doctors Don’t Tell You,” began work on “The Field” four years ago as a personal quest. Her research took her to many areas around the globe, meeting with top frontier scientists in Russia, Germany, France, England, South American, Central America and the USA. During these meetings, she saw what these scientists were working on and it seemed to overthrow the current laws of biology, chemistry and physics. Their theories and experiments also compounded into a new science, a new view of the world. For several years she immersed herself in quantum physics and pored through hundreds of scientific papers to decoding what was often impenetrable work. In many cases she had to pester the scientists to explain aspects of physics in order to check facts and interpretations. Lynne concludes that her work paints a picture of an interconnected universe and a new scientific theory which makes sense of ’supernatural ‘phenomena. McTaggart discussed her new work on the science of intention, and how it relates to healing and consciousness. Living beings are receivers and transmitters of information, and thoughts have a physical reality to them, like currents of light, she stated. While there have been some methodological problems in a number of studies that tried to measure the effectiveness of prayer, other experiments have shown that mental intention or healing is effective 50-80% of the time, she reported. Healers “power up” by getting into a meditative state, noted McTaggart– but interestingly, a brain study of monks showed they produced gamma waves (the fastest type of brain wave) while in a state of “utter peak attention.” Certain places or times can enhance mental intention, and it also helps to make the intention as specific as possible, she shared. McTaggart plans a series of global experiments through a new website, theintentionexperiment.com. One will involve trying to change variables such as temperature in a terrarium that will be seen on a live webcam. Ultimately, she said, the goal is to learn how to use intention for positive purposes, such as lowering the crime rate in a community.

This is an excerpt of a lecture given by Alexei V. Filippenko, Professor of Astronomy, for his class at UC Berkeley called “How Stars Shine: Cosmic Furnaces” (”Introduction General Astronomy”):

Alex Filippenko’s research accomplishments, documented in about 500 published papers, have been recognized by several major prizes, and he is one of the world’s most highly cited astronomers. He has won the top teaching awards at Berkeley and has been voted the “Best Professor” on campus five times. In 2006, he was selected as the Carnegie/CASE Professor of the Year among doctoral institutions. He has produced three astronomy video courses with The Teaching Company and coauthored an award-winning textbook. He is an avid tennis player and hiker, enjoys world travel, and is addicted to experiencing total solar eclipses (8 and counting).

SPACE:

Want to know why we don’t have to worry about our sun burning out? It’s because long before that happens, the sun will expand so enormously that Earth will be cooked to a cinder. Take a tour through the solar system, learn about the event horizon of black holes and when our galaxy began.

EINSTEIN’S RELATIVITY:

Everything in the universe is traveling through space-time at the speed of light – the maximum speed possible. If you are sitting still in space, then you are traveling through time at the maximum speed. But if you begin traveling through space, then your progress through time slows down. Time Dilation and other relativistic phenomena await you in this interesting series, so hurry up and slow down!

Carl Sagan, Ph.D. (1934-1996) was an American astronomer, astrochemist, author, and highly successful popularizer of astronomy, astrophysics and other natural sciences. He pioneered exobiology and promoted the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI).

He is world-famous for writing popular science books and for co-writing and presenting the award-winning 1980 television series “Cosmos: A Personal Voyage”, which has been seen by more than 600 million people in over 60 countries.

During his lifetime, Sagan published more than 600 scientific papers and popular articles and was author, co-author, or editor of more than 20 books. In his works, he frequently advocated skeptical inquiry, secular humanism, and the scientific method.

Johannes Kepler (1571-1630) was a German mathematician, astronomer and astrologer, and key figure in the 17th century scientific revolution. He is best known for his eponymous laws of planetary motion, codified by later astronomers based on his works “Astronomia nova”, “Harmonices Mundi”, and “Epitome of Copernican Astrononomy”. They also provided one of the foundations for Isaac Newton’s theory of universal gravitation.

During his career, Kepler was a mathematics teacher at a seminary school in Graz, Austria, an istant to astronomer Tycho Brahe, the court mathematician to Emperor Rudolf II, a mathematics teacher in Linz, Austria, and an adviser to General Wallenstein. He also did fundamental work in the field of optics, invented an improved version of the refracting telescope (the Keplerian Telescope), and helped to legitimize the telescopic discoveries of his contemporary Galileo Galilei.

Kepler lived in an era when there was no clear distinction between astronomy and astrology, but there was a strong division between astronomy (a branch of mathematics within the liberal arts) and physics (a branch of natural philosophy).
